Rendesco clean heat network achieves coveted Heat Trust accreditation

23 November 2023

  • New housing development in Stamford Hill supplied by Rendesco’s ground source heat technology will be covered by Heat Trust protections
  • Heat Trust accreditation gives householders equivalent protections to those on gas & electricity networks and precedes Ofgem’s regulation of the sector
  • This project is the first developed by Rendesco to receive the accreditation

Rendesco, the UK’s leading developer and provider of clean heat, has today announced that the state-of-the-art ground source heat network it developed for the Pegasus Lymington Gate housing development has received accreditation from Heat Trust. The project, which benefits from Rendesco’s innovative and sustainable design, is one of the first ground source energy networks to achieve Heat Trust accreditation.

The heat network will supply a reliable, efficient and affordable supply of clean heat to the entire development located in Stamford Hill, Lymington.

All households in the development will benefit from highly coveted consumer protections equivalent to those for gas and electricity customers as part of Heat Trust accreditation. Heat Trust’s scheme rules set minimum standards to ensure that heat network customers are guaranteed satisfactory service and protections by their heat suppliers. This includes fair treatment, support for vulnerable customers, transparent billing and communications, and access to the Energy Ombudsman if things go wrong.

Today’s news comes after the Government announced it had appointed Ofgem as the forthcoming regulator for heat networks in the UK.

Alastair Murray, Founder and Managing Director of Rendesco, said:

Stephen Knight, Managing Director of Heat Trust, added:

“We are delighted to welcome Last Mile Heat as a registered participant in the Heat Trust Scheme.  This shared ground-loop type heat network is one of the first of its type to register with the scheme and signals a real commitment to consumer protection and service standards, vital to building consumer confidence in this emerging form of heat network.

“Government research estimates that by 2050, 20% of the UK’s heat demand will be met by heat networks. As heat networks of this type become more widespread, Heat Trust registration ensures that customers remain front and centre in the industry’s journey to more sustainable heating.

Rendesco’s network at Pegasus Lymington Gate utilises a highly efficient system of vertical boreholes which are used to transfer heat from the ground to provide hot water and central heating to all homes on site, ensuring the properties have a low carbon footprint and are compliant with the upcoming Future Homes Standard.

This news follows Rendesco’s announcement earlier in the year that it is developing a gross pipeline of over £150m to accelerate the rollout of its low-carbon heating solutions in new build developments.

Pegasus Lymington Gate is just one of many similar projects run by Rendesco, who have installed and operate ground source heating systems in over 3,000 homes across the country. The company is seeing rapidly growing interest in its new models of ground source heat network technology, which supply clean heat to housing developments in a similar fashion to a traditional gas network. Rendesco says  new housing developers are opting for its renewable heating technology, as the UK accelerates its transition to low-carbon heating and sustainable design standard.
